Beaches

An island for all tastes, Mykonos maintains this diversity in its many beautiful sandy beaches. The beaches at the southern coastal areas attract the biggest crowds. They are more protected from the wind, offer excellent views and boast for their golden sand. The northern beaches are equally beautiful but more suitable for the visitors who seek a quieter approach.

We shall start our tour from the town of Myconos, Chora, going southwards, clockwise.

Megali Ammos

This is the closest beach to Chora. Well protected from the south winds, it is perfect for the impatient visitor who wants to dive into the clear blue waters, upon arrival.

Korfos

Just two kilometers from the town, this beach is not really suitable for swimming.

However, its strong northern winds (meltemia) make it an ideal spot for wind surfing lovers.

Ornos

This is an ideal beach for families. Hotels, taverns, super markets, pharmacies in the surrounding area, provide care for all possible needs. Ornos is also a perfect mooring place. Daily excursions to the island of Delos are also available from here. Access from all areas of the island is excellent by all transportation means.

Agios Ioannis

This is the favorite spot of the high society. Located in the south west coast of Mykonos, 5 kilometers from Chora. This small and very picturesque beach with white sand, offers an excellent view of the island of Delos. Bus schedules are frequent. A bar and a restaurant serve visitors needs.

Psarou

A medium size, sandy beach, in the southwest side, close to the bus terminal at Platis Gialos. A variety of possibilities for accommodation, eating, water sports, a diving school, satisfy all preferences and needs.

Platis Gialos

A long, wide stretch of sand, as its name implies, this is probably the busiest beach of all. Fine sand, blue green waters, low hills and rocks, good hotels and restaurants. Excellent accessibility. It also serves as a”marine terminal” with frequent boat rides to the southern beaches.

Paranga

At the southwest of Platis Gialos, 6 kilometers from Chora, this sandy beach is located in an interesting contrast between fine sand and huge rocks. Taverns and bars with modern music create a lively atmosphere. It is accessible by bus or on foot from Platis Gialos.

Paradise (Kalamopodi)

Synonymous to Mykonos this beach has been famous since the Hippies period, in the late 60’s. Besides its magnificent waters, it offers visitors a variety of activities. Sea sports, a diving center, disco, beach bar, cater to all tastes.  Nudism is also an option. Access is easy with frequent bus schedules, and boats from Platis Gialos.

Super Paradise (Plindri)

Equally famous with Paradise, it is located in a landscape of exquisite beauty. This beach attracts mainly young crowds, with loud music and all day and night beach parties. Nudity is permitted. Access is possible by bus or a boat from Platis Gialos.

Agrari

Ideal for getting away from the busy life of Mykonos, this quiet beach is located in the southern side of the island. Accessible by private car, taxi, or by boat from Platis Gialos.

Elia

Close to Agrari, but not as quite, this is the largest of the southern beaches, with hotels, bungalows and restaurants. A “Watermania” park close by, offers a wide range of water-related activities, music and dancing, in a 60,000 square meters stretch of land. Access by bus from Chora and boats from Platis Gialos.

Agia Anna

Close to Kalafatis beach, this is a rather quiet place, perfect for relaxation. Accessible by private car or taxi, or on foot from Kalafatis.

Kalo Livadi

Very close to Agia Anna, within walking distance from Ano Mera, this is a beach best suited to families. Located close to a small cultivated valley, it has a few taverns, and some small hotels. Accessible by private car or taxi.

Kalafatis

Close to the beaches of Kalo Livadi and Agia Anna, 3,5 Kilometers from Ano Mera, it is one of the biggest, but not busiest, beaches in the island. Located in a landscape of exquisite beauty, with crystal clear waters, this is the most suitable beach for wind surfing. Neighboring restaurants serve unique sea food dishes.

Lia

This sandy beach at the Southeastern side of the island is located 14 kilometers from Chora. A wise choice for those who want to enjoy clear blue waters in an atmosphere of complete serenity. A small fish tavern will satisfy those wishing to enjoy a tasty but simple meal. Access possible by private car or taxi or a good walk from Kalafatis.

Ftelia

Located 5,5 kilometers from Chora, this weathered by the winds beach is the ideal place for wind surfing enthusiasts. Restaurant available. Accessible only  by private car or taxi.

Panormos

In the northern part of the island, 7 kilometers from Chora, this is a long, quaint sandy spot with many dunes. It is well protected from southern winds. A couple of taverns and a hotel provide basic facilities. Nudism is tolerated.

Agios Sostis

Within the same bay with Panormos lies this small, sandy beach. It is one of the most secluded beaches in Mykonos, most suitable for those wishing to avoid big crowds. Hotels and restaurants in the surrounding area serve the visitors needs. Accessible only by private car or taxi.

Agios Stefanos

Families will find an ideal refuge in this well protected from winds sandy beach, northwest of the town. Hotels, restaurants and cafes serve the visitors needs and tastes. Sea sport and yacht facilities are also available.  Accessible by private car, taxi or bus.

Tourlos

Close to the new port of the island of the same name, this beach is located 2 kilometers north of Chora.
