How to get there
The Greek island of Mykonos can be reached by air from Athens. If you prefer to travel by ship, you have a choice of ferries, flying dolphins, hydrofoils, or catamarans that leave from Piraeus and Rafina. The distance from Piraeus is 94 nautical miles and from Rafina 71 nautical miles. The trip by a "normal speed" ferry from Piraeus takes about 6 hours, while the respective one from Rafina takes about 5 hours, but there is a variety of faster vessels (high-speed ferries) to choose if you want to cut that time to almost the half.

By Plane
Mykonos has an airport, about 4km away from the main city. The airport has regular flights for Athens and Thessaloniki by Olympic Airways and Aegean Airlines.

Getting Around
When the government made Chora an architectural landmark, they prohibited motorized traffic on its streets. Only a few small delivery vehicles are allowed. The only way to get around town is to walk.
Transportation in Mykonos island
By car or motorbike
The car although it cost more than public transport, it is ideal for exploring every corner of the island and discover hidden beauty. You can simply, quickly and cheaply to rent cars can take it to the port or airport.
Renting a car or motorbike is a great way to be able to travel to Mykonos with the pace that suits you best. Rent a car for the whole or a part of your vacation. You can find many rental car companies, many of which offer special prices.
Documents you will need
You will need to provide a valid driving licence, issued in your country of residence at least one year ago (some companies require 2 years).
If your permit has been issued with additional documents, you should submit them as well. Where your permit has been issued to another EC / ECA, you may need an international driving licence.
By Taxi
The taxi is clearly the most rested means of transport, but also the most expensive. The levels are set each year and are specific to each destination on the island, with no taximeters. The main TAXI stand is in the Mando Square and there is also at Fabrica. Prices are “fixed” for each destination. There is a 24 hours dispatching service: tel.:2289022400 and 228923700.
By Bus
It is the surest and most inexpensive way to get around on the island. The regular bus service offers the best and most economical way to visit all locations.
There are 3 bus stations in three different areas of the island.
- Bus Station 1 at Fabrica going to: τον Platys Gyalos, Psarou, Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Paradise and Paraga.
- Bus Station 2 OTE area going to: Ano Mera, τον Kalafati and Elia.
- Bus Station 3 Old Port going to: New Port and Agios Stefanos

By caique (small boat)
It is a wonderful means for visiting the beaches on the southern shore of the island. You can take them from Platis Gialos beach, located south of the island and is one of the most popular beaches; boat trips visit neighbour beaches, Paradise, Super paradise, Paranga, Elia.
Also you may visit by caiques the nearby historical island of Delos. The trip lasts about 25 minutes.
From Mykonos you can reach by boat the nearby islands Tinos, Paros, Andros, Naxos and also Santorini and Crete.
